Carried

Posted on June 10, 2010 at 10:03 AM

Last week I vacationed at Disney World with my husband, daughter and son-in-law, and his parents and brother. We spent most days at one of the Disney parks: Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, etc. It was fun and fabulous. Magical, even!

Late every evening, on the shuttle home, I saw something precious. After the heat and excitement of wonderful Walt Disney World, tired children were carried in their fathers' arms, most of the cherubs sleeping and completely oblivious to their surroundings. Some of them seemed cuddled and comfortable; others were simply splayed out (no other way to describe it) arms and legs hanging loose, completely supported by nothing but Daddy's strength.

Not one father looked wearied by his precious burden. Actually, they looked happy. It could have been that they were happy to be leaving the park after all day, but it seemed to me they were just happy.

It made me wonder if when God says, "Be still and know that I am God," he's really saying, "Let me carry you now. Just rest."

We're told to walk by faith, and sometimes even to fight the good fight of faith. Even in the midst of the walk and the fight, there's a rest that comes from believing he's with us and in us and he is our strength and victory.

And sometimes, because we're human, when we've fought the good fight and feel too tired to even walk, he will carry us.

"...and underneath are the everlasting arms" (Deuteronomy 33:27).

I love this reminder that God is our source for everything. Sometimes all we have to do is wait and be still - for sure. If our body is any indication - God gave us two ears and one mouth - to listen twice as much as we speak. You have permission to remind me when I forget this. Love ya- thanks for this encouraging post - and - all worked out with Toronto.... thanks again...

Wonderful insight and so encouraging. Undoubtedly God is more ready to carry and support us even than earthly fathers. We need to be reminded. What peace and assurance as we rest in Him.

My father-in-law sustained a fall two weeks ago and broke his hip. I have been feeling the weariness and stress about the decisions my husband will have to make and the road ahead. There were other issues that were concerning me as well. I was so encouraged again as I was reminded of how the Father will carry us through anything.

As so many have commented, Fay, you've given a beautiful picture of our Heavenly Father's love and care.
I like the the clarity and simplicity of your point. And also, it seems to me that you caught a sense of the pure state of being reflected in those dads' caring, carrying actions: "... but it seemed to me they were just *happy* "
Thank you.
