In the face of modern day Terrorist attacks and warnings of the same, I hope we dare to believe what King David had to say about God.
As I wrote in WIAN, God takes his own words seriously! And he wants us to do the same. David is such a good example for us in that regard. He had such a positive response to God's word. When we read what David wrote/sang we know he took God's covenant seriously, and trusted in it. Trusted in God.
And that trust wasn't a result of David's holiness either, or his ability to keep the covenant. We know David messed up quite seriously at times. When he did, he recalled what he knew of God's mercy and repented. One of those times, when it seemed David felt his heart wasn't "whole" in it's repentance, he asked God to create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit in him. David obviously relied totally on God and trusted his loving kindness.
Just listen to David:
"Oh how great is Your goodness, which you have laid up for those who fear you, which you have prepared for those who trust in you in the presence of the sons of men! You shall hide them in the secret place of your presence from the plots of man. He who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him. The Lord brings the counsel of nations to nothing; he makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plan of his heart to all generations.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. He is our help and shield. The Lord looks from Heaven. He sees all the sons of men. The eyes of the Lord is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears open to their cry.
The angels of the Lord encamp all around those who fear him, and delivers them. The salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; he is their strength in time of trouble and the Lord shall help them and deliver them; he shall deliver them from the wicked and save them, because they trust in Him."
That's what David believed. No excuses. No caveats. No apologies.
