Seeking First

Posted on August 20, 2009 at 8:31 AM

Yesterday, at our church's Summer Campmeeting Ladies' Luncheon,  visitng speaker, Pastor Terri Pearsons, from Eagle Mountain International Church in Fort Worth, Texas, talked about seeking the kingom of God first.

She said that it didn't mean putting everything else in life--such as family, career, or home--in line after the kingdom. It meant that, in each of these aspects of life, we choose to put the kingdom first.

It reminded me of when a few years back I asked the Lord what "putting the kingdom first" looked like. After all, I may be able to believe God for something he has promised without knowing exactly how that would happen, but if it's something I'm supposed to do, I need clear understanding of how to walk it out. Having only a vague notion of my responsibility will lead me off track more often than not.

So I asked,  "How do I seek the kingdom?"

Then, I had this thought: How would I seek Elizabeth's kingdom?

The answer: I'd seek to find and live where Elizabeth was queen.

So, to seek the kingdom of God is to seek to live every day in that place where he is King in my life, where "What does God say about this?" is my first question in every circumstance or decision, no matter where or when.

"But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (Matthew 6:38).

Fay: A very simple yet effective way of explaining our search for God's Kingdom.

It seems so simple when you look at it that way. I'll have to give it some thought though.
